The publisher of Anambra Times, Dr. Paul Nwosu, has announced a roundtable on Southeast Economic potentials by Anambra Times, which is scheduled to be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Awka, the Anambra State capital. The roundtable, which will be chaired by Senator Victor Umeh, has Professor Godwin Onu, an erudite professor of political science and a former Rector of Oko Polytechnic, as the lead presenter. The theme of the roundtable is; “Harnessing the power of interstate collaboration to unlock the Southeast’s full economic potential.”
This important conversation is timely, coming at a time when the Southeast is burdened by serious insecurity that is detrimental to the zone’s economic activities and economy in general. The Southeast zone, made up of five states of Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States, has been struggling with security challenges linked to separatist agitation. In consequence, for more than two years, Mondays have been converted to an extension of the weekend, as no serious activity is held on Mondays in the Southeast.
It is anticipated that this roundtable will add to new efforts to arrest the troubling situation, which is at the core of the latest discussions on Southeast economic potentials. The lead presenter, Prof. Godwin Onu, was only recently appointed to chair the Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Professorial Endowment.
In the end, it is anticipated that the conversation will yield a syndicated approach and a coordinated response to the economic challenges of the Southeast, chief among which is insecurity.
