The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, during a 2-day working visit to Enugu, officially commissioned the refurbished Technical and Vocational Education and Training College, GTC Enugu.
GTC Enugu once dilapidated due to decades of neglect under the administration of Dr. Peter Mbah, Enugu State Governor, was totally refurbished and now boasts of 24 ultra-modern training centres; for ICT and digital innovation, renewable energy, welding and fabrication, auto-mechatronics, refrigeration and air conditioning, fashion design and garment making, hospitality amongst others.

The facility also includes two modern hostels capable of housing up to 1,000 resident male and female students.
Conducting the First Lady and entourage round GTC Enugu, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah revealed that the institution is the first of eight technical and vocational colleges his administration is establishing across the federal constituencies of Enugu State.
“Investing in technical colleges marks a clear departure from traditional, rote-based education toward experiential, skill-driven learning. This shift is essential for equipping our youth with the practical knowledge and competencies they need to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving world.”
“We are moving beyond a system that emphasizes memorization to one that values creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on problem-solving, because we believe education must prepare students not just to pass exams, but to succeed in life and contribute meaningfully to society.”
Governor Mbah further reveals that within the large premises, the technical college is complemented by two Smart Green Schools.
Meanwhile, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has also flagged off the Free to Shine Triple Elimination Campaign in the South East.

The Free to Shine Triple Elimination campaign is an initiative of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development and global partners to eradicate HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis by 2030.
Speaking, the First Lady stated that Nigeria bears the highest burden of HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa, hence this intervention is not just necessary but urgent.
Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, wife of the Enugu State Governor, commending the Nigerian First Lady, pledged the state’s support and willingness to drive the Free to Shine Campaign.
The Free to Shine campaign seeks to eliminate stigma, expand access to treatment, and end mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
