The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it has received a total of 110 applications from various associations seeking registration as political parties in Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Monday by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during a stakeholder engagement in Abuja.
According to the Commission, the requests are being processed in accordance with the law and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).
“As at Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties. We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as our Regulations and Guidelines,” Yakubu stated.
The Commission further revealed that, out of the 110 requests, all except six—received only recently—have been formally acknowledged. INEC assured the public that the remaining six will also be acknowledged before the end of the week.
“For emphasis, I wish to inform Nigerians, particularly those interested in registering new political parties, that the handbook containing the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022 is already available on the Commission’s website,” the INEC Chairman added.
INEC released the full list of all 110 associations on its Facebook page on Wednesday. The list includes the proposed names, acronyms, office addresses, as well as the names of the chairmen and secretaries of the various associations.
Some of the applicants include: Key of Freedom Party (KFP), chaired by Barr. Olamide Adaramoto; Absolute Congress (ABC), led by Alh. Mohammed Yunusa Abdulrahman; United Peoples Victory Party (UPVP), with Hon. Orielle Adeyemi as chairman; Obidient Peoples Party (OPP), chaired by Barry Avotu Johnson; African Union Congress (AUC), led by Solomon Nwokoro; Patriots Party (PP), chaired by Dr. Godwin J. Also on the list are associations with novel names like the Far-Right Party, Team New Nigeria, National Freedom Party, About Nigeria Party, and Democratic Union for Progress, among others.
Notably, some applications did not include the names of party officials or addresses.
Professor Yakubu confirmed that the complete list will be published on INEC’s official website and social media platforms for public scrutiny. Hard copies were also made available to participants at the meeting.
