A suspected militia was arrested by Troops of the 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) on night patrol along Kafi Abu-Rakwok Road in Gashish District in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State, on Sunday, 6th July, 2025.
OPSH, in a statement in Jos by its Media and Information Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the suspect while in an ambush position with the possible intent to attack unsuspecting commuters in the area.
According to Major Zhakom, items recovered from the suspect include one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition.
The media and Information Officer added that the suspect and weapon, and ammunition recovered from him were being kept in the custody of troops for further action.
Major Zhakom stressed that OPSH was intensifying operations against the use of firearms by unauthorized individuals to disrupt the security of the Joint Operations Area, as efforts were ongoing to conduct follow-up operations to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.
“We, therefore, urge the public to continually furnish troops with actionable information to carry out the operations successfully, while also addressing the challenge of proliferation of arms,” he said.
