A special security outfit backed by the Adamawa government, ‘Operation Farauta’, has uncovered a hidden slaughterhouse located in the Bachure area of Yola North Local Government Area.
The secret slaughterhouse was allegedly owned by a top government official in the state where stolen cattle were being slaughtered and sold to the public.
Operation Farauta, which raided the house, acted based on a report from a herder whose cow was stolen, and a footprint of the said cow was traced to the slaughterhouse.
The suspects, upon sighting security personnel, jumped over the wall and left the slaughtered cow.
It was observed that during a visit to the scene, the slaughtered cow was found, and a toilet in the house was converted for dumping animal waste.
The cow owner, who identified himself simply as Mallam Gagare, explained to newsmen that after he followed the footsteps of his stolen cow, it led him to the slaughterhouse; thereafter, he alerted security agents to the matter.
The slaughtered cow was later taken to the Adamawa Police headquarters in Yola, and was released to the owner after taking a statement of the account of what transpired.
The Adamawa State Police Command was yet to officially comment on the matter.
