The National Flood Early Warning Center of the Federal Ministry of Environment has placed nine Northern states on red alert over possible flooding between August 25 and 29, 2025.
Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, in a circular, cautioned that certain Northern states are likely to experience heavy rainfall that could trigger flooding.
He listed the states to include Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Borno, urging stakeholders to remain vigilant and report any emerging incidents.
“Certain northern settlements are likely to experience heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding within the period August 25 to 29, 2025,” the circular read. “We call on relevant stakeholders on the Centre’s platform to give feedback on any emerging situation in their various states,” Bokanit said.
