The Managing Director of Builderstech Solution Ltd, Agene Johnson Godwin has been sentenced to 48 years’ imprisonment for his role in a large-scale investment scam.
Justice M.S. Abubakar of the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, has sentenced the Managing Director after finding Godwin guilty on an amended eight-count charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court heard that the convict defrauded more than 5,000 unsuspecting investors of over N500 million through fraudulent investment schemes operated under Builderstech Solution Ltd.
The court found Godwin guilty for collecting funds from members of the public under false pretences, promising high and unrealistic returns on investment.
Justice Abubakar sentenced the defendant to a cumulative 48 years in prison without the option of a fine, due to the gravity of the offences and the scale of the fraud perpetrated against victims.
The EFCC urged Nigerians to exercise caution when investing, especially in schemes that promise unusually high returns, and pledged its commitment to protecting the public from financial crimes.
