NewsNigeriaNigeria-Cameroon Mixed Commission To Conduct Border Demarcation Along Its Borders

The United Nations Mixed Commission on Border Demarcation for the Nigeria-Cameroon border villages will soon arrive in Adamawa State, following the Adamawa State Boundary Committee’s sensitization and engagement with stakeholders in the affected Madagali, Michika, Mubi-North, and Mubi-South LGAs.

In 2002, the leaders of Nigeria and Cameroon established the commission as a critical mechanism for resolving territorial disputes and promoting cooperation between the two nations.

The Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission is a United Nations-established body created to facilitate the peaceful implementation of the International Court of Justice’s judgment regarding the boundary dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria.

Adamawa state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, disclosed that while briefing Journalists after a meeting with the affected local governments, he said that the two countries have adopted a give-and-take formula.

Farauta stated that CNMC would ensure the border communities with Cameroon are clearly demarcated and that development is brought to the villages, hence the state boundary committee’s sensitization engagement with the affected border local government areas.

She expressed confidence in a peaceful, amicable demarcation exercise between the two nations, which have a long history of intermarriage, trade, and shared cultural values.
