The Federal Government will soon roll out plans to mobilize 10 million Nigerian women nationwide to participate actively in politics, policy advocacy, and economic development.
The initiative was announced at the National Women Mega Empowerment & Rally 2026, held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and organized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
The rally with the themed “The Power of 10 Million: One Voice, One Movement, One Choice is aimed at moving women from passive participation to active involvement in decision-making processes across the country.
Addressing the gathering, Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who was a special guest of honor at the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally, reaffirmed the critical role of women in national development.
She explained that women, who make up over 50 percent of Nigeria’s population, are uniquely positioned to drive meaningful change and shape the nation’s future.
She commended the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for advancing women-focused empowerment initiatives.
Senator Tinubu emphasized that empowering women to make informed decisions will strengthen families and communities, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which promotes inclusion and greater participation of women in governance.
The First Lady urged women to remain committed to raising responsible children and sustaining strong family values, describing it as vital to building a better Nigeria.
“This initiative is about moving women from participation to power,” an official said. “We want women to be active in leadership, policy discussions, and economic activities that shape the future of the nation,” she said.
According to the government, participation will cut across the grassroots, with representatives drawn from Nigeria’s 9,410 wards. The organizers said coordination would rely on decentralized structures to ensure wider reach and inclusion, rather than focusing only on those physically present at the rally.
Officials explained that the programme will provide grants, skills acquisition opportunities, and support for small businesses, with the aim of improving women’s economic stability and encouraging self-reliance.
The Federal Government said the initiative reflects its commitment to promoting inclusive development and ensuring that women play a stronger role in national growth.
