Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the reported alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) as a “fraud”.
The Turaki-led PDP faction had, on Wednesday, announced an alliance with APM ahead of the 2027 general elections, a development that coincided with the declaration of a presidential bid by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Makinde had said the PDP–APM alliance would enable the party to field candidates for all elective positions in 2027.
However, speaking on Thursday while inspecting ongoing road projects in Abuja, Wike dismissed the claim, accusing Makinde of misleading Nigerians.
“That’s the 419 we are talking about,” Wike said.
In local parlance, “419” refers to fraud, a term widely used in Nigeria to describe deceptive schemes.
The Minister insisted that no such alliance exists between the PDP and APM or any other political party.
“INEC also knows that there is no such thing as a PDP-APM alliance,” he said.
Wike further pointed to the ongoing internal processes within another PDP faction as evidence that the party remains independent.
“The screening of aspirants by the Abdulrahman Mohammed PDP faction clearly indicates that the party is independent and not in any alliance,” he said.
He added that the PDP had already presented a presidential candidate, urging Nigerians to watch developments closely.
“PDP has presented a presidential candidate. Watch out to see the name of the candidate who will be submitted to INEC and see whether there is anything called PDP-APM,” he said.
Taking a direct swipe at Makinde’s ambition, Wike said: “What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to be able to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival.”
The Minister also noted that Bala Mohammed made no reference to any PDP–APM alliance upon joining the party.
