Crime & SecurityNewsNAFDAC Destroys Fake Products Worth N1.8m

Counterfeit, expired, and unsafe regulated products worth N1.8 million naira were destroyed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Abuja.
The measure is to remove the products from circulation, thereby reinforcing the agency’s commitment to protecting Nigerian consumers.
The items were seized across Abuja and surrounding areas, with additional products voluntarily submitted by companies, NGOs, and the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN).
The destruction exercise, carried out at the Kuje dumpsite in the Federal Capital Territory, involved the incineration of fake medicines, banned sachets of alcohol, expired pharmaceuticals, falsified chemicals, and other unwholesome products.
NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, while speaking at the event, said the exercise affirms the agency’s resolve to ensure that seized products never find their way back into the market.
Represented by the Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, the DG warned that counterfeit drug syndicates are now using sophisticated cloning techniques to imitate genuine products and urged the public to be more vigilant than before.
She reaffirmed the agency’s enforcement on the ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml, warned that traders found with such products would be prosecuted.
According to NAFDAC Boss, the agency had intercepted several containers of suspicious products falsely declared to evade detection at the ports, highlighting the need for stronger inter-agency collaboration.
Prof. Adeyeye urged Nigerians to avoid buying medicines and regulated products sold at low prices and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office or the NAFDAC Call Centre.
