Former governorship candidate in Cross River State, Senator Sandy Onor, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) consensus presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, made the announcement on Tuesday at the PDP national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, during the presentation of the party’s presidential primary results.
He said the committee reached a consensus after engaging stakeholders and party members nationwide ahead of the official declaration and voice votes conducted among party members in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
After the announcement, PDP leaders presented Onor with the party flag and a certificate of return, confirming him as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 presidential race.
In his acceptance remarks, Senator Onor thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work towards uniting the party ahead of the general election.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, monitored the exercise at the party headquarters.
