The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving personnel welfare and operational effectiveness.

The COAS gave the assurance on Thursday during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and special luncheon with troops of 3 Division and Operation Enduring Peace at the headquarters of the Operation in Jos.
The Army Chief who was represented by the Commander Armoured Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar commended officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their courage, resilience, and sacrifices in ongoing operations across the country.
He described Eid-el-Kabir as “a sacred festival that reflects the virtues of faith, sacrifice, obedience, compassion, and devotion to duty,” noting that the values align closely with the professional calling of the Nigerian Army.
Shaibu said robust administration and efficient welfare delivery remained a key component of his command philosophy.
“The ongoing interventions include “provision of accommodation, educational sponsorship for children, improved healthcare services, and financial welfare packages aimed at easing economic pressure on personnel,” he said.
He disclosed that the Nigerian Army’s infrastructure development drive was extensively showcased during the recently concluded First Biannual Chief of Army Staff Conference 2026, adding that efforts were being intensified to improve working conditions for officers and soldiers.
The Chief of Army staff urged personnel to remain disciplined, professional, and committed to their constitutional responsibilities, while also promoting unity, peaceful coexistence, and compassion irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.
Shaibu praised troops deployed in various theatres of operation for their loyalty and professionalism in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft, and other forms of criminality threatening national peace and stability.
He explained that the sacrifices and commitment of personnel remained the driving force behind the operational successes recorded by the Nigerian Army, adding that the nation remained “proud of their selfless service in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The COAS also paid tribute to fallen military personnel who lost their lives defending the nation, describing them as gallant heroes whose sacrifices continue to inspire officers and soldiers.
He further extended condolences to families of fallen troops and assured them that the Nigerian Army would continue to uphold the welfare and memory of their loved ones.
He appreciated the collaboration between the Armed Forces and other security and intelligence agencies, stressing that synergy among security institutions remained critical to sustaining operational success and national stability.
Shaibu also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support and commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, said Eid-el-Kabir symbolises sacrifice, devotion, patience, and commitment to a higher purpose, values he said reflected the realities of military service.
Oyinlola commended troops serving across the Joint Operations Area for remaining resolute, despite difficult operational conditions and prolonged separation from their families.
He urged officers and personnel to “remain vigilant, disciplined, and operationally ready in addressing security challenges within the Joint Operations Area.”
The GOC also honoured fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in service to the nation and appreciated the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, and the COAS, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu for their strategic guidance and support towards operational successes recorded by 3 Division and Operation Enduring Peace.
He encouraged troops to embrace unity, sacrifice, and mutual support as they continue to work towards lasting peace and security in the country.
The event brought together retired and serving military officers, personnel of other security agencies, media, and community members.
