NewsNigeriaPoliticsMilitary Rescues Abducted Wife of Late Major General Rabe Abubakar

Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, weeks after she was abducted by bandits.
Mrs Abubakar was taken alongside her husband, a former Director of Defence Information, during an earlier attack by armed criminals. The retired senior officer died in captivity.
Her rescue followed days of sustained military pressure on the bandits by troops under Operation FASAN YAMMA, who intensified search-and-rescue efforts across affected communities.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, forcing them to abandon their captive.
“In the course of the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to the overwhelming pressure from advancing troops,” the statement said.
She was immediately evacuated from the scene and taken to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Military authorities said they are providing support to her family and remain committed to her full recovery following the ordeal.
According to the statement, “The leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain committed to ensuring her full recovery and is providing all necessary support to her family during this difficult period.”
The military also assured that operations are ongoing to track down those responsible for the abduction and attack.
“Troops will continue ongoing operations to track down and neutralise the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to rid affected communities of terrorists not just in Katsina but in the entire nation,” Uba noted.
