History has been written in Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria, where the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), swept all 21 Chairmanship and 226 councillorship seats in a state governed by an All Progressives Congress (APC) member.
Umar Mohammed Madagali, Chairman, Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), while declaring the results, said: “The People’s Democratic Party has won all 21 local government chairmanship elections and all 226 councilor positions in the state”.
Madagali, who neither gave scores nor the names of the candidates of the various political parties that participated, explained that the returning officers have announced the election results at the respective local governments and wards.
He said the commission remained committed to conducting its responsibilities in line with its mandate and thanked electoral officials, security agencies, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the exercise.
The commission chairman urged those who won the election to extend a hand of fellowship to those who lost, highlighting the importance of unity.
Recalled that Governor Fintiri, who won two previous elections on the platform of PDP, recently defected to the APC.
Under the governor’s watch as APC leader, the opposition party, PDP, recorded a landslide victory in all LG elections.
