A Nigerian soldier has been detained after allegedly opening fire and injuring two civilians in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, 23 June.
The sources identified the soldier as Pte. Lawan Abubakar of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion stationed in Ngoshe. He was said to have left his duty post without official authorisation and travelled to Pulka town.
According to the sources, the soldier allegedly fired several rounds indiscriminately around the Pulka Market area, leaving two civilians injured.
Troops of the 192 Battalion were said to have swiftly responded to the incident, disarmed the soldier and took him into custody.
The injured civilians were evacuated to the General Hospital, Gwoza, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The sources further disclosed that the soldier has been transferred to the Headquarters of the 26 Task Force Brigade for further investigation and possible disciplinary action.
