The Federal High Court in Lokoja has set aside its earlier judgment that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.
Justice Isah Dashen ruled that the judgment was faulty because it was delivered without hearing from all parties affected by the case, stressing that all relevant parties must be heard before any final decision is taken.
The decision followed an application by the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which argued that NDC’s registration was based on a party logo it had earlier submitted to INEC before the case began.
Justice Dashen therefore ordered that the case should start afresh, with INEC, the PMP and the NDC joined as parties.
The court also directed that the situation should return to what it was before the December 2025 judgment, pending the outcome of the fresh hearing.
Speaking to journalists, counsel to the PMP, Chikezie Ekeocha, said the party went to court after discovering that NDC’s registration relied on its previously submitted logo.
