The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that a fire incident has broke out on Sunday at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, prompting an emergency response.
FAAN in a statement posted on its official X handle, saying its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) had been deployed and were actively working to contain the blaze.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the statement read.
FAAN assured the public that no casualties or loss of life had been recorded as of the time of filing this report.
“There have been no reported casualties or loss of life,” the statement added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established, and it remains unclear whether airport operations have been affected by the incident.
The incident has sparked concern among travellers and airport users, while emergency responders continue efforts to fully contain the fire.
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport is Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub, handling thousands of domestic and international passengers daily.
