Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has appointed Nollywood actresses Rachael Okonkwo and Eucharia Anunobi as aides in his administration.
The appointments are part of a fresh list of 101 political appointees approved by the governor across three categories: seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants. The appointments took effect immediately.
The appointments were contained in a public service announcement signed on Monday by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development.
The actress, whose full name is Nnenna Rachael Okonkwo, is known for her roles in Nollywood, particularly the Nkoli Nwa Nsukka film series. She hails from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Veteran actress Eucharia Anunobi was appointed Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for Enugu-North Zone.
Anunobi became prominent in Nollywood in the 1990s and has featured in numerous Nigerian films. She later became an evangelist.
The appointments give both actresses government responsibilities in areas closely related to their public profiles, with Okonkwo assigned to the creative industry and Anunobi tasked with women mobilisation in Enugu-North.
101 aides appointed
The two actresses are among 101 people appointed by Mbah in the latest round of appointments.
The seven Special Advisers will oversee portfolios including conflict resolution and mediation, inter-governmental affairs, policy affairs, economic development, grassroots coordination and commerce and business development.
The six Senior Special Assistants will handle areas including film and creative industry development, inter-party relations, party monitoring, legal and regulatory compliance, boundary and land dispute resolution, and small and medium enterprise development.
The Special Assistants have been assigned responsibilities covering security intelligence, environmental protection, market sanitation, youth development, infrastructure, community engagement, civic education, technology and innovation, among others.
The latest appointments come after another round in August, when the Enugu State Government appointed 23 Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.
There have been conflicting reports from some media outlets on the total number of new appointees. However, the public service announcement cited by multiple reports states that the latest appointments comprise seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants, making 101 appointments.
The appointments take immediate effect.
