Three soldiers have reportedly been killed while 10 others sustained injuries following an attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on a military base in Garaha-Mojili, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The attack, according to the Chairman of the local government, Dr. Aliyu Yerima Sa’ad Hong, the incident occurred as troops operating in the area came under attack from suspected insurgents.
Hong, added that the insurgents also killed a Forest Guard personnel and abducted two women.
He said the incident occurred on the eve of sixty sixth independence anniversary of the country and expressed concerned with the incessant attack on some communities in the area bordering with Borno state.
According to him, the insurgents came around midnight on the eve of 66th independence anniversary of Nigeria on motorcycles with each motorcycle carrying heavily armed insurgents and engage the military in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The council chairman, stated that many insurgents were killed by the military during the encounter and others fled with gunshot wounds but bodies of the dead insurgents were quickly evacuated by their colleagues.
“Our hearts are heavy today. “It is profoundly painful that our Independence Day was marked by tears instead of joy. However, the ultimate sacrifice of these officers will never be forgotten; they died protecting our homeland,” Hong said.
The Chairman reassured residents that the Council is working tirelessly with the Adamawa State Government, traditional institutions, and security agencies to fortify Hong LGA and urged the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and report suspicious activities to security operatives.
“Nigeria is our country, Adamawa is our state, and Hong LGA is our home. We will not be deterred, and we will work tirelessly until enduring peace is restored,” he said.
Hong stated that the council had facilitated the burial of the slain forest guard official and offset the medical bills of the wounded soldiers, after visiting them at the Federal Medical Centre Hong.
He said normalcy has been restored in the community and people are going about their normal business.
Garaha-Mojili, located in Hong LGA, has previously been affected by insurgent activities.
The latest reported incident has raised fresh concerns over the security situation in parts of northern Adamawa, particularly communities located close to areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army is yet to make a statement independently confirming the reported casualty figures of three soldiers killed and 10 wounded.
