The ad-hoc committee set up by the Lagos State House of Assembly to probe allegations of financial misconduct against the speaker Rt. Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, called-off its meeting, as persons and parties invited to substantiate their claims, did not show up.
Persons invited include Mr. Babajide Otitoju of Television Continental; Mr. Bayo Oluwasanmi, Budgit, Concerned Nigerians; Adeola Fayehun of Keeping It Real, according to The Nation. Others are The Independent Diaspora Nigerians Against Corruption and Human and Environmental Development Agenda.
The committee called off the meeting at 1:30 pm after invitees failed to show up for more than three hours. The Chairman of the committee, Mr. Victor Akande, said petitioners had until Saturday to appear before the committee.
“It is an allegation, we cannot just go to court. We have to find out the facts and figures and have something to work on. It is not just against the speaker.
“The house once investigated an issue against the former governor. We must build something on something for us to have a cause of action,” Akande said.
The Chairman of the committee said Sahara Reporters acknowledged receiving the invitation of the House of Assembly. Other invitees, Mr Akande said were sent invitations through their email addresses and the means they used to make the allegations against the Speaker, according to The Nation.
Sahara Reporters, an online news platform, published a report alleging that Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, used a company, De Kingrun Multipurpose Nigeria Limited to secure contracts from the assembly and ministries for himself to launder public funds. It alleged that the Speaker used the names of his father, wife, and children to register the company.
Mr. Obasa denied the allegations. His lawyer, Lawal Pedro (SAN), demanded a retraction of the publication and an apology.
