People’s Democratic Party is considering a waiver for the Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, who has been considering joining the party following his membership resignation from the All Progressives Congress.
The National Working Committee of the PDP held a meeting in Abuja yesterday over the Edo State chapter of the party.
We learned that the meeting is part of the consultations on how best to accommodate Obaseki and his supporters in joining the party before its governorship primary which has been postponed to June 23 from June 19 and 20.
We also gathered that the NWC has agreed to grant a waiver to the governor in accordance with the party’s constitution for him to be able to contest in the party’s primary.
Obaseki has held a series of meetings with PDP leadership for most of Wednesday. The meeting has in attendance, the party Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwa; and his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, among others to establish the agreement.
Also, there are strong indications that two aspirants had agreed in principle to step down for the governor.
