Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has released one point five billion naira (N1.5b) to offset part of backlog of pension arrears.

Recently, the state chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Adamawa state chapter Comrade Samson Almuru said the state government owed pensioners more than twenty-seven billion naira (N27b).

According to the Executive Chairman Adamawa state pension board, Mr. Thomas Madi about six hundred and sixty (660) pensioners would benefit from the amount of money released by the Governor.

The Executive Chairman of the state pension board,Mr. Thomas Madi stated this in an interview with ABC yola reporter in his office.

Madi in an interview with newsmen explained that the money is to clear the backlog of gratuity of those who retired between 2019-2012.

 “The board has roll-up arrears and payment to retirees who retired from 2019, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
“The payment will commence in the first week of January 2021 through E-payment to benefiting retirees with thorough verification and benefiting retirees who might have challenges to lodge their complaint to the board for clarification.
“Since the creation of Adamawa State, no Government has released half of what the Governor Fintiri has released for pensioners”. He said.
Madi reiterated that the board will be transparent in the disbursement of the money.
He commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for looking into the plight of pensioners expressing regret that the past administration did not give pensioners a priority.
