The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, has been thrown into a mourning mood following the announcement of the demise of veteran actresses, Ada Ameh and Sola Onayiga.

Ada Ameh, who is known for her lead role in the multi-award-winning family drama, The Johnsons, died on Sunday, 17 July, 2022.

Her death was confirmed by Emeka Rollas, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

Confirming the unfortunate incident to Premium Times on Monday, Rollas said he had been briefed about her demise but was still gathering more insight into the circumstances behind her death.

Unconfirmed reports making waves on social media, however, say the actress, who lost her 30-year-old daughter, Aladi Godgift in October 2022, slumped at an event on Sunday, 17 July 2022 night and was, thereafter, rushed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s hospital in Delta State, but died before they arrived at the medical facility, and was pronounced dead upon her arrival.

Veteran actress and star of Fuji House of Commotion, Sola Onayiga, also died in the early hours of Monday, 18 July 2022, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

Announcing her death, Shaibu Husseini, a movie critic, via his Twitter page wrote: “Just learnt that the accomplished Stage and Screen Actress and Fellow of Theatre Arts Auntie Sola Awojobi Onayiga passed on today.

“Auntie Sola is best known for living delightfully the role of Ireti aka Cooking practicals in the defunct TV sitcom ‘CHECKMATE’! Journey well Ma!”
