Vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is in London to represent Nigeria at the funeral of late Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth II, the Head of the Commonwealth and the longest serving British monarch, passed away at the age of 96 on 8 September at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
The funeral service of the late monarch is scheduled for Monday, 19 September at Westminster Abbey.
Members of the Commonwealth, Heads of State, Governors-General, Prime Ministers, and foreign royal families will be at the funeral service to join members of the royal family to celebrate her life and unwavering service to the nation and Commonwealth.
Prof. Osibanjo departed Nigeria on Saturday to join the Royal Family and other world leaders ‘at a number of events and receptions’, including the State funeral for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande, the vice-president is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with the UK foreign secretary, James Cleverly.
“VP Osinbajo is leaving Abuja today for London to represent Nigeria at the State Funeral for the late Queen Elizabeth II,” Akande stated.
“He will join King Charles, the Royal Family, and other world leaders at a number of events and receptions including a bilateral meeting.”
The Vice-President will return to Nigeria after the state funeral on Monday.
