Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has threatened to dethrone any traditional ruler who refused to report criminal activities in their areas of jurisdiction.
The governor stated this Sunday, during the coronation and presentation of staff of office to the Emir of Misau, Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman.
“Government will not hesitate to sanction any traditional ruler that is found to be supporting or refusing to report criminal activities in their areas of jurisdiction.
“As a matter of fact, I will not hesitate to dethrone any traditional ruler that is found wanting, especially when it comes to the needs of his people.

“Government was not happy about the involvement of some traditional rulers in the encroachment of the grazing reserves, forest reserves, and cattle routes,” Mohammed said.
He called on traditional rulers in the state to reactivate the traditional system of monitoring suspicious movements and strangers in their domains to tackle the rising insecurity in the state.
The governor appealed to traditional institutions to enlighten their subjects to cooperate and provide actionable intelligence to security agents.
Mohammed advised the new emir to emulate his predecessor, Muhammadu Magan, and to improve on them.
