NewsNigeriaPoliticsVIDEO: Nigerians in diaspora renounce citizenship over the outcome of the 2023 general election

About 48 hours after the 2023 general election ended, two Nigerians in the diaspora renounced their citizenship.

In the videos shared on Twitter, the men cited the gruesome electoral malpractice, voter intimidation, ethnic discrimination and all forms of electoral violence witnessed during the elections as the reason for their decision.

Amid hopes of a free and fair election, Nigerians trooped out to their various polling units on February 25 to elect a new president and their representatives at the federal level but were disappointed at the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for falling short of expectations.

Three weeks after the presidential and National Assembly elections, INEC again took centre stage for the conduct of governorship and house of assembly polls which also recorded unparalleled irregularities.

Displeased with the conduct of the general election, the two men tore their Nigerian passports to shreds and vowed never to have anything to do with Nigeria again.
