The National leadership of Labour Party, LP has described the purported suspension of its National Chairman, Julius Abure by the executive members of his ward in Edo State as illegal and could not hold water.
Farouk Umar, National Secretary of LP who made the clarification in a statement on Friday said based on the party’s constitution, only the National Convention could suspend the national chairperson, through a convention called for the suspension.
Umar attributed the purported suspension to the handiwork of opposition parties to distract the leadership of the Labour Party from pursuing it’s mandates in Court seeking to reclaim presidential, governorship, senate and House Representatives during the general elections.
The statement reads in part: “Our Party’s Constitution clearly defines who can suspend and who cannot suspend the National Chairman. They should go and read the party constitution.
“Only the National Convention can suspend the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
“It also must be through such a convention called for the suspension of the National Chairman”.
Recall that on Friday, the executives of Arue ward 03 in Esan North East Local Council of Edo state led by Martins Osigbemhe announced the suspension of Abure from the party over alleged forgery and anti-party activities.
