No fewer than 214 persons were killed in separate violence such as terrorist attacks, communal clashes, and reprisals across the Kaduna state from January to March 2023.
The figure was contained in the First Quarter 2023 Security Quarterly Report presented to the State Security Council by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan.
The commissioner gave the breakdown of the casualties as 196 males, 14 females, and four minors, while 746 were kidnapped.
The report quoted Governor Nasir El-Rufai as applauding the military-initiated offensive operations against insecurity and noted that “the persistence of security challenges, including terrorism and banditry, as well as the unfortunate toll in killings, kidnappings, injuries, and threats to the livelihoods of our people,”.
“There is every reason to intensify and sustain simultaneous ground and air kinetic actions across the seven frontline states of the North-West region and Niger states.”
“The operation would prevent the establishment of a dangerous calm that might be exploited by criminals and outlaws, particularly during the period of transition from one administration to another,” he said.
