A 38-year old man Abubakar Saidu and his wife, along with three other suspects, have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a two-year-old for ransom.
The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Ramhan Nansel who disclosed this during a news briefing in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital, explained that the suspect conspired with four others to kidnap the son of his neighbour.
DSP Nansel pointed out that two weeks later, the suspects called the parents, demanding N2.5 million as a condition for releasing the child.
The PPRO said the victim had been recovered in good condition and reunited with his parents.
In an interview, Saidu Abubakar who confessed to the crime said he connived with three of his friends to abduct the boy and hand him over to his wife, who took him to Katsina State for ‘safekeeping’ pending when the parents would pay the ransom.
“I regret my role in the kidnapping of the two-year-old boy. The parents are my closed-door neighbours; I needed money, which is why we stole the child. It was in the process of negotiating for the ransom that the police tracked us down and arrested us”, he said.
