A 56-year-old man, Alhaji Saleh Idris who is APC Chairman in Jigawa state has been arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old house help of Unguwar Mani quarters, in Roni Local government area of the state.

The Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC CSC Adamu Shehu stated this to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital.

According to him, operatives of the command arrested the APC Chairman Alhaji Saleh Idris on a suspected rape case contrary to section 3 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) act of Jigawa State and punishable under same.

“The suspect, Alhaji Saleh was arrested on Wednesday, October, 4th following a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother who reported that the suspect had raped and impregnated his 14-year-old sister who was a house help at the suspect’s residence, and is pressuring the family to abort the pregnancy.”

“The victim narrated that her first encounter with the suspect was when he offered her drink at the time his wife was not at home which made her lose consciousness and had canal knowledge of her.”

“When she regained consciousness he threatened her not to tell anyone or risk losing her monthly allowances, which he retained for about Seven months without paying,” Shehu explained.

The PRO said the ugly trend continued repeatedly without her telling anyone until pregnancy surfaced.

He said the case was reported at the NSCC Divisional office, Roni LGA Division after a failed agreement by the suspect to care for the pregnancy.

“The brother of the victim alleged that at the time, the Hisbah Commander, Roni LGA, Malam Abubakar called and gave him N40, 000 which he said was given by the suspect to go to Daura in Katsina State to abort the pregnancy. An offer which he rejected,” he said.

CSC Shehu added that upon interrogation, the suspect denied having carnal knowledge of the girl, impregnating or holding her money, but confessed to having known the girl only as someone who only provides water to his house once in a while when there’s water scarcity in the area.

He said the suspect has already been charged in court, while the investigation is ongoing.
