The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested several students of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, in southwestern Osun State suspected to be Yahoo boys, the Nigerian-speak for Internet fraudsters.
The students numbering up to 69 were arrested on Wednesday during a raid at their off-campus hostels in Oduduwa Estate, Ile-Ife.
“Credible intelligence linked Oduduwa Estate with activities of suspected internet fraudsters,” the anti-graft agency said in a post on X.

Exotic cars, 190 mobile phones and 40 laptops, among others were recovered from the internet fraud suspects.
The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded, the EFCC said.
Meanwhile, the president of the OAU students union, Abass Ojo, condemned EFCC’s raid.
Ojo accused the EFCC operatives of breaking into students’ hostels and rooms late at night to arrest students without concrete evidence.
