…reviews arrest and bail procedures.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has banned its officers from embarking on night raids to effect an arrest.

The order came after the agency came under fire for raiding students’ hostels on Tuesday night and arresting 69 male students whom they labelled “Yahoo boys”, otherwise known as internet fraudsters.

The students were arrested at Oduduwa Estate in Ile-Ife, the town housing the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, in Osun State.

“Credible intelligence linked Oduduwa Estate with activities of suspected internet fraudsters,” the anti-graft agency said in a post on X, hours after the controversial arrest.

Mobile phones, laptops and cars belonging to the students were seized by the EFCC officials.

Meanwhile, some of the students were released on bail late Wednesday while others will be freed after profiling.

In a follow-up statement, the EFCC authorities charged officials to be professional in their conduct and “follow the best international standards worth our identity as a flagship law enforcement agency.”

The charge follows a review of the anti-graft agency’s guidelines on arrest and bail processes on Monday.
