Nigerian security forces are celebrating a major victory against banditry in the north. In a series of coordinated raids, the military reportedly dismantled several well-fortified bandit camps, eliminating a significant number of militants.
A particularly noteworthy development is the possible demise of notorious bandit leader Aminu Dogo.
Dogo, who had been linked to numerous kidnappings and attacks on communities, was a prominent figure within bandit groups. His reported death is seen as a potential turning point in the fight against banditry and a major blow to the criminal groups operating in the region.
Dogo and his gang members were slain on 1st May, Zagazola Makama reports.
In the past week, the Nigerian military has maintained an aggressive posture against the terror groups.
A combination of airstrikes and ground assaults have been used to take down terrorist camps in different areas within Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and other parts of the Northwest region.
The attack on Dogo’s camp coincided with the repelling of an attack on two communities in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State by the terrorist group led by kingpins Kachallah Hassan Nabamamu, Kachallah Mal Tukur and Kachallah Baldu.
Details about the military operation were not shared in detail, but Zagazola Makama suggests casualties among the bandits number in the dozens.
