A 24-year hair salon apprentice Blessing Okonkwo, resident of Kabang ward in Mubi town, headquarters of Mubi North LGA Adamawa state has sold her 4 years old biological brother Friday Okonkwo at the cost of N410N700,000, 000.00.
Blessing, who confessed to the crime, told the Police that she initially demanded N700, 000 from the buyer, but later agreed on N400,000.
According to her, she procured a grinding machine and handset with the money and gave her fiancé the sum of N200,000.
She explained that the money was given to her in installments with N10,000 for transportation from Mubi town to Rimirgo in Borno State to bring the boy, and later N400,000 on two separate days.
She stated that she deceived their mother Ms Hauwa Lawan who lives in Rimirgo of Askira/Uba LGA, Borno state into enrolling in school in Mubi before the boy was released to her.
Blessing said she also deceived Efunaya the buyer that the boy (Friday) was her biological son because the father who impregnated her while in Secondary School is no longer interested in her and the child either.
The buyer Mrs Efunaya Nabufe, 35 years old, a mother of four and an inhabitant of Mubi town, Adamawa State admitted to having paid N410,000.00 for the purchase of the boy and had transported him to Enugu for adoption by her sister in Enugu.
Mrs Efunaya Nabufe added that she collected the boy alongside her counsel for adoption by her sister who resides in Enugu.
She added that the boy is healthy and ready to return the boy to his biological mother if insists but declined to give reasons why she could not give one of her biological children to her sister for adoption.
On her part, the mother of the boy, Ms Hauwa Lawan pleaded with the Police to recover her child.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa State Command Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP Suleiman Yahya Nguroje has confirmed the arrest of Blessing Okonkwo and Mrs Efunaya Nabufe.
He said the arrest followed a complaint lodged at Mubi North Police Division by Ms Hauwa Lawan who lives at Rimirgo in Askira Uba LGA, Borno state that her child was stolen by her sister on 2nd July, 2024.
PPRO stated that the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo had assured that the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
