The Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NIMET has alerted that flood disaster may affect eight local governments in Adamawa State to include Madagali, Mubi North, Mubi South, Shelleng, Demsa, Numan, Song and Yola North.

Following this development, Adamawa state government has extended the resumption date of Public Secondary Schools with two weeks for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The earlier resumption date was to Monday, September 16, but now shifted to September 30, 2024.

This is contained in circular signed by the Acting Executive Secretary, Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Yola Bilsan Panuel, directed the Zonal Directors, Initiating Principals and Principals to comply with the new resumption date, but did not say whether the extension has affected private schools, as it was silent on them.

The statement reads in part: “I hereby write to inform you that the First Term 2024/2025 Academic Session resumption date is now September 30, 2024.

“This is due to the anticipated flood disaster that we will be experiencing”.

Similarly, the Adamawa State Government also urged people residing along flood prone areas in these local governments to move to safer places before 16 September, 2024.

Mr Iliya James, State Commissioner for Information and Strategy while speaking to newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in the Government House, Yola, says N3.9 billion has been approved for extension of the completed Saminaka Storm Water drainage from Federal Government Girls College, FGGC Yola fence to Airforce Comprehensive Secondary School Yola.

James said the project, to be completed in six months, covers excavation and construction of 2.4km by 7m and by 1.5m storm water drainage was awarded to Messrs Triacta Nigeria Limited.
