Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, where he will stand in for President Bola Tinubu at the country’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.
Senegal marks its Independence Day every 4 April, celebrating its 1960 break from French colonial rule with parades, cultural events, and national pride.
This year, the grand event will take place at Place de la Nation in Dakar, with President Bassirou Faye welcoming dignitaries from across Africa and beyond.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Shettima’s visit is in response to a formal invitation from President Faye, reflecting the strong ties between Nigeria and Senegal.
The Vice President is expected back in Nigeria on Friday after the celebrations.
