The Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, has met with top leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Makurdi.

The closed-door meeting, which was held on Wednesday, brought together key security agencies and representatives of local governments in what the military described as a strategic engagement to address the rising tide of insecurity in the state.

Speaking after the meeting, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 401 Special Forces Brigade and Sector 1 OPWS, Lawal Osabo, said the discussion focused on major threats in the region, including farmer–herder clashes, retaliatory attacks, cattle rustling, and kidnappings.

According to Osabo, Major General Gara stressed that the military remains fully committed to restoring peace but insisted that collaboration and dialogue must take the lead.

“This meeting is a bold and necessary step toward isolating criminal elements, fostering mutual understanding, and promoting peaceful cohabitation among communities. Dialogue must supersede confrontation if we are to achieve enduring stability,” Gara said.

He urged MACBAN leaders to support the military’s peace efforts by distancing themselves from criminal activity, promoting peaceful coexistence, and reporting any threats to security promptly.

The army spokesman noted that concerns raised during the meeting would be forwarded to the Benue State Government and relevant national authorities for proper action.

He also described the meeting as a reflection of a broader shift in civil-military relations, one that focuses on de-escalating tensions, breaking violent networks, and creating room for lasting peace.

Participants at the meeting were advised to stay alert and remain committed to the agreements reached. Communities were also encouraged to resolve disputes through lawful means and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The outcome of the meeting, Osabo added, marks the beginning of a new chapter in the fight against insecurity in the state.
