The Adamawa State House of Assembly has summoned all the 21 Local Government Council Chairmen in the state to appear on the floor of the assembly and account for their stewardship in the last year.

The resolution followed a motion raised under matters of public importance by the member representing Numan Constituency, Pwamwakeno Makwando, and was unanimously approved by the lawmakers during Wednesday’s plenary.

According to the resolution, the Council Chairmen will start appearing at the hallowed chamber for an oversight interface on the 5th August, 2025.

The lawmakers warned that any council Chairman who fails to appear or submit any of the requested documents will be treated as a breach of accountability and may warrant further legislative action against such a person.

Each council Chairman will come along with a comprehensive scorecard summarizing achievements and activities over the past year.

Other documents include a copy of the annual budget and a performance report indicating budget implementation status, details of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), sources, monthly breakdowns, and expenditure.

They were also to come with records of all completed and ongoing projects, including locations, contract amounts, and contractors.

Others are employment records, including the number of staff employed, roles, and current staff disposition list across departments, as well as records of statutory allocation for the period.

Mackondo had earlier, while presenting the motion, urged other lawmakers to invite all the Council Chairmen to appear before it for an oversight briefing after spending a year in office.

The lawmaker stated that the exercise is not to witch-hunt anybody but to guide and encourage improved governance at the grassroots.

He explained that oversight by the legislature will ensure that funds are utilized efficiently and for the benefit of the people at the grassroots, stressing that the electorate deserves to know the performance of their elected Chairmen.

Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, Speaker of the Assembly, who presided over the session, directed the Clerk to communicate the resolution of the house to the council chairmen.
