NewsNigeriaPolitics“No Godfather, Only God” — Rivers NDC Governorship Candidate Says

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, Blessing Fubara, has rejected claims that his political ambition is being driven by any godfather.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Fubara said his political trajectory is anchored on personal conviction and faith, not external influence.

“I don’t have a godfather but I have God the Father,” he said.

He maintained that his bid for office is guided by a clear, independent vision, distancing himself from suggestions of political sponsorship or control.

Fubara also addressed speculations linking his ambition to existing political structures within the state, including perceived ties to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He noted that both operate on distinct political ideologies and perspectives.

According to him, attempts to portray his candidacy as an extension of another political agenda are misplaced, stressing that his focus is on what he described as the need to “rescue Rivers State.”

His remarks come amid intensifying political activity ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with shifting alliances and internal realignments across major blocs fuelling debate.
