The Movement for Credible Elections, MCE, in collaboration with the June 12 Democracy Movement of Nigeria, present has presented an agenda for valuable Nigeria.

The forum issued a communique following its Democracy Anniversary Dialogue held on Friday in Lagos.

The event, which was attended by political leaders, pro-democracy groups, civil society, labour, women and youth leaders, began with tributes at the MKO Abiola Democracy Centre before the main dialogue.

The communique which was read on behalf of the group by erudite Lawyer, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, noted that Nigeria’s current challenges are not limited to electoral mistrust, insecurity, poverty and loss of faith.

The participants resolved on immediate measures to include electoral reform. They said that urgent review of the Electoral Act 2026 by the National Assembly is germane to ensure a credible process before the 2027 elections, so as to reflect the will of the people.

Also, they advocated that there is need for accountability, that government must manage national resources responsibly, prioritising welfare, security, and well-being of citizens.

On Security the duo said that government must take decisive, community-based action to end the siege of terrorism and banditry without delay, stressing on the need for food security. They added that concrete steps must be taken to address low agricultural productivity and growing food insecurity.

The group recommended, some fundamental measures, stressing that the 1999 Constitution was imposed by the military without a mandate to make a constitution. It called on the National Assembly to initiate legislation enabling Nigerians to give themselves a democratic constitution.

For immediate action they recommended the formation of an ideological think tank of pro-democracy actors, to be set up to rally stakeholders and the public toward actualising the resolutions.

Participants urged Nigerians to unite around a vision for a great nation and work collectively to solve its problems, emphasising Nigeria’s potential as the most significant black nation in the world.

Those that signed the communique include Dr. Tunji Abayomi, Comrade Solomon Dalung, Prof Sadiq Abubakar Umar Gombe, Prof Mrs Remi Sonaiya, Mr. Emeka Ugwu-Oju, Comrade Olusegun Mayegun, Dr. Tanko Yunusa and Veteran Olawale Okunniyi.
