Following the killing of a 30-year-old Habse Ubale in Garin Malam village, of Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State accused of practising witchcraft, the Bauchi State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the killers.
The Bauchi State Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement that already one suspect had been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend the two fleeing suspects.
According to the statement, the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday and preliminary investigations showed that a 35-year-old resident, Garba Daudu, allegedly conspired with two others to attack the family of one Audu Sabo.
“The suspects invaded the family’s residence, where Habse was hacked with a machete, while two children, Sale Audu, 12, and Yakubu Audu, 14, were beaten with sticks, leaving them with injuries.
“Police operatives, assisted by hunters and vigilantes, evacuated the victims to the General Hospital, Gamawa.
“Habse was confirmed dead by a doctor, while one of the injured victims remains on admission and the other two have been treated and discharged,” the statement said..
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who condemned the killing, ordered that the case be transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
He warned public against jungle justice and violence based on suspicion, assured residents that all those involved would be brought to justice.
CP Aliyu appealed to members of the public to assist with credible information that could aid security agencies in arresting the remaining suspects.
