Adamawa State government has taken precautionary measure to safeguard students and teachers and relocate NECO examination centres in some vulnerable schools to safer places.
The step by government followed abduction of students of Government Day Secondary School Lassa in Askira-Uba of Borno State last Monday while writing NECO Examinations.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Development of the ministry, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed Umar, in a statement on Wednesday evening, said the relocation is with immediate effect due to heightened security concerns.
“The decision became necessary following the recent abduction of students and teachers in neighbouring Borno State on June 29, 2026, which has raised fears over the safety of students, teachers, invigilators, supervisors and NECO officials.
“The relocation is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding the lives of candidates and examination personnel while ensuring the smooth conduct of the ongoing NECO examinations,” the statement said.
The statement added that the decision was taken in the best interest of the state and the safety of its children and teachers, stressing that the relocation would remain in effect until the security situation improves.
The affected schools and their new examination centres include Government Day Secondary School Kwabapale moved to Government Day Secondary School Michika and Government Day Secondary School Kuburshosho relocate to Government Day Secondary School Watu.
Others are Government Day Secondary School Kirchinga now to take their examinations at Government Day Secondary School Shuwa, while students from Government Day Secondary School Wagga have been relocated to Government Day Secondary School Madagali.
Similarly, students from Government Secondary School Hausari, Michika would moved to Government Day Secondary School Watu and those from Government Day Secondary School Shuwa moved to Government Day Secondary School Madagali.
In the same vein, students from Government Day Secondary School Guyaku were relocated to Government Day Secondary School Gombi and those from Government Day Secondary School Dzangola to Government Day Secondary School Gombi.
Also, those taking examinations at Government Day Secondary School Garaha would move to Government Secondary School Kwabaktina and those from Government Day Secondary School Mukuvinyi have been moved to Government Day Secondary School Hildi.
Students from Government Day Secondary School Gawkilba were moved to Government Day Secondary School Gashala and those in Government Secondary School Maki now to take their examinations at Government Day Secondary School Gashala, Hong Local Government Area.
The ministry called on the affected school authorities and community leaders to ensure strict compliance with the relocation order with immediate effec, and appealed to the management of all affected schools, members of the public and NECO officials to cooperate fully with the directive.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students and ensuring that academic activities continue in a safe and secure environment.
