A nongovernmental organization, the Women Arise, Connect and Support Group, has raised N40m to support women’s programs across Plateau State.
The group raised the money during the inauguration of its executive committee and coordinators at the Plateau State Polytechnic, Jos Campus.
Speaking at the event, the Convener and Coordinator of the group, Felicia Luka, said the initiative was established to help women discover their potential, acquire useful skills and become self-reliant through productive ventures.
Luka said the group would connect women with people, resources and opportunities to help them build sustainable livelihoods.
“Activities of the group were not driven by partisan politics, although members were free to support political candidates based on their records and commitment to good governance.
“Under the proposed coordinator-based structure, the group plans to establish networks across the local government areas to reach more women, identify their needs and provide support, training and empowerment opportunities,” Luka said.
The Guest Speaker, Beatrice Dakas, who spoke on “Empowering Women Through Education, Skills and Advocacy,” urged women to pursue education and acquire practical skills to improve their economic independence.
Dakas explained that education would help women make informed decisions, understand their rights and contribute more effectively to their families and communities.
She also urged women to speak up on issues affecting them, including education, healthcare, security and access to economic opportunities.
