CoronavirusNewsNigeriaUPDATE: Lagos Seeing A Slow Spread Community Transmission of COVID-19 – Sanwo-Olu

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said the state is now experiencing a slow spread community transmission of COVID-19.

At a briefing on Monday, the Governor said that the rise in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state is an indication of a slow spread of community transmission.

He added that there was a need to strengthen and increase the government’s response in containing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lagos recorded the highest cases since the pandemic, recording 70 new cases on Sunday, making the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 376.

The Governor, however, said there is no need to panic, saying that “The rise in new cases is as a success of our house-to-house contact tracing and ramping up of tests across 20 LGAs.”

The Governor then urged that the people should adhere strictly to social distancing, maintain good hygiene and avoid stigmatizing those who have been discharged of COVOD-19.

Noting that this will encourage those experiencing the symptoms to come forward testing rather than seeking private assistance and hiding travel history.

Mr. Sanwo-Olu added that “Also, there have been questions about whether the state government is planning to introduce a face mask-wearing policy. Our simple answer is that it may be compulsory to wear one in public places from next week.”
