Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Aamechi, on Saturday, laid the foundation stone of Transport and Logistics Institute of Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), in Isuikwuato local government area of Abia State. Amaechi gave an assurance that the federal government was committed to realizing the transport policy of the country.
The institute which is the first of its kind in Nigeria would boost the training of experts that would operate in the transport, maritime and aviation sectors. The foundation laying ceremony was part of activities marking the 8th Matriculation Ceremony of GUU where over 280 students took an oath as college entrants.

Amaechi further praised the Chancellor and Founder, Prof. Gregory Ibe for his vision and assured him that federal government would partner with him, since his vision was in line with that of the federal government. He assured that the federal government would do everything possible to realize the country’s transport policy.

Acting Vice Chancellor of GUU, Prof. Augustine Uwakwe, said the institute, on completion, would provide specialized laboratories for  Maritime and Oceanography, Aviation/Aeronautic, Designing and Construction Suites, Aerospace Engineering, Central Machining Tools Centre, Railway Engineering, Logistics Design/Planning, Road Maintenance/Transport Engineering and Simulation rooms.

“There would be provision for libraries, Museums and Lecture halls in the institute which would also run short-term certificate courses for technicians, technologists for the transport sector, as well as undergraduate and graduate programmes,” Uwakwe noted.
