As the Adamawa state government intensify efforts to curtail the spread of COVID-19 with lockdown order, residents expressed support, as they beg for palliative.

Some residents spoken to were emphatic that the lockdown the measure will significantly contain the spread of the disease.

Habu Baba a resident of Malamre said though the measures taken by Gov. Fintiri will check the spread in Adamawa however prevailed on the need for community and religious leaders to assist.

‘’ There should be constant r meetings between the religious leaders, community leaders, security agencies, and government on the way forward for  Fintiri’s efforts to achieve desired results.

” our pastors and imams should put hands on deck, the government should punish anyone found wanting, we must protect lives and that of our families, it is he who is alive that prays,” he said.

Mr. James Aboki  a petty trader at Jimeta Ultra-Modern  market  said it is the right steps taken by the government with what is happening some northern states, we have no choice than to cooperate with Fintiri to keep our state safe”

‘’I am in 100% support of all the measures put in place, I have spoken with other traders on the need for us to remain safe and our religious leaders, need to convince their followers on social distancing, the fight is for us all and not for Finitiri and cabinet alone.

‘’ While residents comply with the lockdown order, please we want governor Fintiri to help us by palliative,’’ Aboki urges.

Madam Gambo Musa said if this step taken will protect us fine but from what I was last time and if stringent measures are not taken against offenders then we might embark on exercises in futility.

‘’The government should extend its hand to us, people are finding it difficult as economic bites; we need food to eat,’’ she said.

In the wake of the COVID-19 index case in the state, the state   Governor  Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri imposed another 14-day lockdown, he signed an executive to contain the spread of the disease.

To this end, a special mobile court was set up which has since convicted 21 persons for violating the movement restriction order.

A total of about 50 persons were arraigned on Monday out of which 21 were convicted and sentenced to two-hour community service.

The convicts were ordered to sweep part of the Jimeta Modern market in Yola.

Magistrate Daniel John, who handed down the judgment, had acquitted 29 accused persons arraigned by the police.

Speaking earlier, spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, said security forces were working in synergy to enforce the lockdown order.

He said, “We have arrested a number of motorists, and they will appear before a mobile court.”.

In the meantime, the first index case in the state is stable and has regained his health stressing that he is much better than he was when he was taken into isolation.

The contracted person in a telephone chat said:” I am feeling stronger and well   and believe l will be discharged soon, they will fix a date for the confirmation test, I feel better, stronger than before.”

From the conversation, one can observe that the patient is in a very stable condition and is getting over the stigmatization that was done in social media.

“Hi my Brother, I’m really happy to speak with you, thank you for the prayers and I know you guys and Nigerians are standing by me. God’s willing,  I’m getting over and winning the war against the virus with a revamped health”.

“But you know one thing? I’m pretty good and by God’s willing I will come out negative, my prayers are that let the case index in Adamawa remains one forever.

‘’ I am s stable and normal that’s why  I  can call and pick calls at will, I remain grateful to the government of Adamawa state and to my colleagues who have been calling me from within and outside the state,’’ his words.

A situation report by the State Ministry of Health indicates that the seven front line contacts of the first  COVID-19 index case recorded in the state were tested negative to the virus.

The report which was co-signed by Dr. Pembi Emmanuel, state epidemiologist, and Dr. Jerry Pantuvo, World Health Organization’s (WHO) surveillance officer on April 26, 2020, stated that since the outbreak of the disease in the state, only one positive case was confirmed on April 21, 2020.

“Index case is a 47-year-old man who presented with cough, fever, and body weakness on his return from Kano on 14 of April 2020. The sample was collected on 18/04/2020.

” Patient is stable with all vital signs return to normal.

” A total of 25 suspected cases have been investigated, 1 positive, 7 negative and 17 pending,” the report said.

 The report noted that a total of 94 contacts have been registered adding that 84 of these contacts are under follow up.
