Joseph Masin, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) , Nasarawa State has been kidnapped.

The police commissioner in Nasarawa, Bola Longe confirmed his abduction on Thursday morning.

Mr. Longe disclosed to journalists that the bishop from taken his house in Bukan-sidi in Lafia at about 12:39 a.m. Noting that the police have mobilised officers as well as hunters to free the cleric.

Corroborating the report given by the commissioner, Yohanna Samari, a former CAN Secretary in the state, said the bishop was abducted by the attackers at midnight at his residence.

He stated that the abductors took the CAN chairman away on a motorcycle. Although nobody was hurt during the incident, the family had been greatly traumatized.

The CAN Vice Chairman in the state, Tayo Samuel said the abductors demanded N20 million ransom from the family, in exchange for his release.

Kidnapping for ransom has become rampant in many parts of Nigeria.

A report by SBM Intelligence indicated that Nigerians have paid over N7 billion as a ransom to kidnappers in the last nine years.
