The Paramount ruler of the Lunguda Chiefdom in southern part of Adamawa state, the Kwandi Nunguraya Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda II, rounded up the signing of peace agreement reached by farmers and herders in Guyuk local government area.

The Paramount ruler called on the two parties to respect the agreement for  peace to reign in the land, adding that without peace there will be no development in any society.

Disturbed by the lingering crisis between farmers and herders, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and the Tabbital Pulaaku Pan-Fulani Cultural Association on Thursday signed a peace agreement in Guyuk local government area .

The peace accord was facilitated by the British Council/ European.

The British Council have been working with community leaders and relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the crisis that has lasted for decades.

Rounding up, the peace agreement, the monarch prevailed on the need respect the peace agreement entered in the peace process, regretting that “minor” squabble that could be resolved amicably is being allowed to snowball into a bloody crisis.

”  Farmers and herders are brothers and sisters in any given society as both engaged in farming and animals rearing.

” People should learn to live in peace as no meaningful achievement could be recalled recorded in an atmosphere of rancour.

” I urge the two parties to respect this peace accord reached so as to end the lingering crisis between farmers and herders,” he stressed.

The Team lead British Council/European Union (MCN), Abdulkadir Bello while addressing both communities said the effort is aimed at facilitating and promoting reconciliation and stability in polarized conflict-affected communities in the northeast region.

Abubakar further assured that the agreement is targeted at fostering unity and enhancing state and community level conflict Management capacity to prevent the escalation of conflict into violence in Adamawa , Yobe and Borno states.

In the agreement, both parties unanimously agreed a ban on night grazing by herders and to synergies with youths groups in collaboration with security agencies to help curb attacks and reprisals.

They also agreed to use dialogue as a means of settling disputes in a bit to maintain peaceful coexistence.
