The State Director, National Orientation Agency, Mr. Isaac Onukwube on Thursday condemned any form of violence against women and children especially the alarming increase of rape cases all over the States of the federation.
Onukwube further advocates for more stringent punishment for rape offenders to serve as a deterrent to persons who commit such heinous crime.
This he said when an Association Against Child Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Enugu State Chapter staged a protest campaign to NOA Enugu State headquarters.
The spokesperson of the group called on the Agency to educate the masses on the ills of rape and the need for boys to desist from gang rape as it causes untold traumatic effects on victims.
The group declared a state of emergency on sexual and gender-based violence chanting ‘Enough is enough’.
In his response, Onukwube said, “ As partners in the business of communicating government policies and mainstreaming value orientation, NOA joins the Association to denounce the rape pandemic that is currently ravaging the nation;
“Cases of rape are recorded in almost all the states of the federation and this is totally unacceptable,” he continued.
Onukwube further reiterated, “Young men and even the elderly now does nothing but lurk around assaulting and molesting the girl child and women; we hereby denounce rape and say ‘enough is enough’”.
The Association Against Child Sexual and Gender-Based Violence has members from the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), and Non-Governmental Organizations.
